Split has a mediterranean vegetation and climate thanks to its geographical position in the bottom of the mountains of Mosor and Kozjak and near the sea. This particularly agreeable climate is one of the major reasons that citizens of Split so unwillingly leave the city to live in another town or abroad.

klimaWinters are warmer and shorter then in mainland and there are more summer days. Yearly, sun shines for about 2700 hours, 7 hours per day and average winter temperature is between 8 and 10 degrees, while summer temperature is around 25 degrees in July and August. Snow is very rare because of its geographical position –it occurs only every few years. The most inconvenient weather is during the blows of bora, cold north-east wind which has its advantages as well – afterwards, the air is much clearer, warmer and it is easier to breathe.
